# Workspace switching

> Change the active workspace deliberately and verify that every provider, setting, and task stays in the intended scope.

The workspace switcher is the scope boundary for most of Marketer. It appears in the top-left and shows the active workspace name with the label **Workspace**.

## What the switcher can show

Depending on your account and role, the menu includes:

* **Account overview** for an eligible account Owner or Admin with at least two active workspaces;
* **Your workspaces** grouped by account;
* the role associated with an account group;
* a check beside the active workspace;
* keyboard shortcuts `⌘1` through `⌘9` for listed workspaces;
* **New workspace**;
* **Workspace settings**; and
* **Invite team members**.

Only options available to your identity and role appear.

## Switch safely

<Steps>
  <Step title="Finish or save current work">
    A switch changes the workspace context for the next page and action. Save drafts or settings first.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the switcher">
    Select the current workspace name in the top-left.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the target workspace">
    Use the account grouping, workspace name, and active check—not a similar brand name alone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify the new context">
    Confirm the trigger now shows the intended workspace, then verify the page's connected account or workspace name before changing anything.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Marketer remembers the active workspace. Treat a return visit as potentially restoring the last workspace you used, not automatically the one you intended for the new task.

## What changes with the active workspace

| Area                    | Workspace-scoped context                                                   |
| ----------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Integrations | Provider authorizations, selected resources, syncs, and Slack routing |
| Analytics | Connected accounts, currency, conversions, audiences, and date coverage |
| Campaign work | Briefs, drafts, provider targets, approvals, and launches |
| Branding | Approved brand facts, competitors, source material, and workspace identity |
| Autofills | Creative enhancements, naming, copy, destinations, and UTM defaults |
| Guardrails and autonomy | Spend caps, protected campaigns, approval thresholds, and launch behavior |
| Notifications | Slack channel, email recipients, severity floor, and event groups |
| Plans & Billing | Workspace plan and usage, unless an account plan covers it |

Personal **Profile**, **Authentication**, and **MCP connect** do not become different records when the workspace changes. MCP connections still use explicit per-session workspace grants.

## Create or administer from the menu

* **New workspace** begins a separate workspace setup; it does not duplicate the active workspace's integrations or policy.
* **Workspace settings** opens settings for the current workspace.
* **Invite team members** opens the account-grain invitation flow, where you choose **All workspaces** or **Selected workspaces**.
* **Account overview** moves to a cross-workspace rollup rather than making one workspace active for all account data.

## If switching fails

The error reads **Couldn't switch workspace. Please try again.**

1. Leave the current page unchanged.
2. Reopen the switcher and check which workspace still has the active check.
3. Retry once.
4. If the workspace disappeared, ask an account Owner or Admin to check your membership and selected-workspace grant.
5. Do not assume a failed switch changed provider or billing scope.

## Before a material action

Use this four-part check:

1. Workspace name in the switcher
2. Provider account, store, or property on the page
3. Source and workspace currency
4. Intended workspace guardrails and reviewer

This is especially important before connecting a provider, changing a revenue rollup, granting an MCP seat, modifying guardrails, launching, or opening billing.

## Next step

Review [Members and roles](/workspace-admin/members-and-roles) to understand why a workspace may appear in one person's switcher but not another's.
