# Approvals, guardrails, and autonomy

> Understand how Marketer controls drafts, pending actions, launches, and spend-related work.

Marketer separates what the agent can propose from what the workspace allows it to execute. Configure the workspace before you rely on a task to publish or spend.

## The control layers

### Your task instruction

State whether you want analysis, a draft, an approval-ready proposal, or execution under existing policy. A clear instruction reduces ambiguity, but it does not override workspace controls.

### Guardrails

Use **Settings → Guardrails** to define the operating limits Marketer should read before spend-related changes. Available controls include:

* Target ROAS, break-even ROAS, and optional target CPA
* Monthly, daily, and minimum-spend boundaries
* The currency used for spend caps
* Whether budget increases are allowed
* Maximum budget increase and approval thresholds
* Campaigns that should remain untouched

Guardrails apply at every autonomy level. Keep cap currency aligned with the billing currency of the ad account because the workspace does not assume a currency conversion for enforcement.

### Autonomy

Use **Settings → Autonomy** to choose the default creative-brief mode and launch behavior.

* **Review everything** keeps new launches paused for your review.
* **Hands-off** allows accepted orders to launch active and begin spending. Availability can depend on the workspace plan.

Enabling active launch behavior requires a confirmation in the product. The **Advanced** setting exposes the underlying active-launch switch.

### Approvals and pending work

When Marketer needs a decision, review the request in the task or open **Awaiting action** from Quick actions. Read the proposed destination, budget, scope, and effect before you approve.

Slack can support configured collaboration and notification flows. Do not assume every approval can be completed from Slack; use the approval surface the task provides.

## A safe initial configuration

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start with review">
    Set **Autonomy** to **Review everything** so new launches remain paused.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Define guardrails">
    Add the performance targets and spend boundaries your team already uses. Confirm the cap currency and protect any campaign Marketer should not change.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test with a draft">
    Ask Marketer to prepare a brief or campaign plan without publishing it. Review the evidence and proposed settings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Inspect the approval state">
    Check the task and **Awaiting action**. Confirm what will change, where it will change, and whether it will be paused or active.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Increase autonomy deliberately">
    Change autonomy only after the workspace has reliable data, tested guardrails, clear ownership, and a review process for completed actions.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Member permissions still apply. Seeing a setting or proposal does not guarantee that your role can edit, approve, publish, or view billing information.
</Note>

## Before you approve

* Confirm the correct workspace and provider account.
* Read the exact change, not only the summary.
* Check budget, currency, schedule, targeting, creative, and destination.
* Compare the change with **Guardrails**.
* Confirm whether approval creates a draft, a paused item, or an active item.
* Record the result you expect to monitor after approval.
